The reach
Swing it out over the keyboard, fold it back against the wall.
Two articulating joints give the arm its travel — out across the whole desk for close work, then in tight when you want the surface back. The joints run on friction, not wing-knobs, so wherever you leave the arm is where it waits.
The shade tilts on its own axis, so you aim the light at the page and not back into your eyes. The weighted base stays planted while you do it, one-handed.
